IPaul Davis was born in San Francisco, California. After skipping eighth grade, he went to one of the progressive schools of the day- a High School that had courses like Physiology, good prep for college and medical school. He got an early love of travel from his parents who took him on summer vacations camping in the Canadian Rockies, taking trains to Mexico City, and the like. The many years of training and med school in Eastern Canada were followed by doing volunteer work in Iran, then headed by the Shah. Based in Seattle, following his return to the States he began working as a Family/Emergency Room Doctor and Occupational Medicine Consultant. In his practice, he had many patients who later went onto stardom in the Microsoft, Starbucks and Apple world; many hard working stiffs who contributed to Seattle’s growth; and a plethora of people who consulted him on how to stay healthy when working abroad.

When his practices were humming along he decided to participate actively in Emergency Department work in various parts of Washington and British Columbia. Being a sailor since youth, he was able to do shifts in beautiful places like Puget Sound, San Juan and Gulf Islands and still sail. During one cold, wet December day, the doctor who scheduled Paul for the ER’s asked him if he would like to do a week shift in Puerto Rico. The position was that of a Ship’s Doctor – not a bad catch considering the ā€œstring benefitsā€. After that brief intro, Paul decided that it was a career path he’d like to follow. For ten years, Paul balanced working as a Ship’s Doctor and keeping his practice going with seven other doctors in Seattle. His marriage didn’t survive that balancing act, but probably wouldn’t have anyway … But that’s another story.

Paul has always kept a journal. In them, he would recount many of the patients’ stories and the often hilarious situations he encountered as the ship’s doctor. People who read some of these accounts kept telling him that he needed to publish them. Paul had his first novel, ā€œCruise Ship Crime Mysteries – A Medical Murder Mysteryā€ in 2010. Although this was a departure from his various medical books, journal articles and other scientific volumes, he found that he enjoyed the process and started writing the novels in earnest.

When a position became available back in Canada as the director of a medical clinic, he went back to the land of maple trees. He has been residing in Southern Ontario – not far from Niagara Falls – ever since. Today, Paul continues practicing and consulting, while finding time to travel and do medical volunteer work in many parts of the world. His Spanish helps in many countries as does some French. However, his Urdu, Mallalm, Tagalog, and Bahasa Indonesian need a lot of work – and a translator! When Paul is not working, volunteering, or writing, he sails in Lake Ontario or where ever in the world he happens to be and if a sail boat is available.
